At last! Your Freshly Crafted order is finally here. Before your dog dives paws first into their new recipe, there are a few things you need to know about fully transitioning to a new diet.
How do I transition my dog to a full diet of Freshly Crafted food?
No matter what your pup’s diet looked like before, we recommend giving them a transition period to adjust. This ensures that your dog not only loves their new diet but also gives their digestive system time to adjust too!
Seven to ten days is ideal for most dogs, but if you see signs of digestive upset, pause for a day or two and resume once your pup’s digestion is back to normal. More on that later!
If you’re a visual learner like us, we made a handy guide to follow as a general rule of thumb:

Essentially, you’ll be gradually increasing the amount of Freshly Crafted in their bowl at their regular mealtime, and reducing the amount of their old food over a 7-10 day period. At the end of the transition period, your dog’s diet should consist of 100% Freshly Crafted food.
Once thawed, Freshly Crafted recipes should be stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days and never refrozen.
What should I look out for when transitioning my dog to Freshly Crafted dog food?
If you notice a shinier coat, happier tummy, and little more pep in their step, don’t be alarmed – that’s just their Freshly Crafted food doing what it does best! Many pet parents notice immediate changes, while others note a general improvement over time.
Every dog is unique, and reacts to Freshly Crafted food differently, so you'll want to keep an eye on how your dog’s digestive system is reacting to the introduction of a completely new diet compared to their normal stool quality. Softer stools and some instances of vomiting may occur and may be your first indication that you may need to slow down or wait to increase their portion size if the symptoms progress. Always make sure your dog is drinking their normal amount of water!
Your dog’s Freshly Crafted journey is as unique as they are, so they may take a little extra time to adjust to their new food – and that’s perfectly okay! What do I need to prepare to gradually transition my dog to Freshly Crafted?
First off, eat up those leftovers because you’re going to need freezer space! Your Freshly Crafted recipes should go straight to the freezer once they arrive. Be sure to only thaw what you’ll need for that day, according to the transition schedule outlined in this article.
Next, you’ll want to make sure you have enough of their old food on hand for the transition period. Always make sure they have access to plenty of fresh water.
