How to Feed Open Farm’s Freshly Crafted Dog Food

Hooray, your dog’s Freshly Crafted food has arrived! Here’s what’s next.

How do I feed my Freshly Crafted recipe?

First off, congrats! You’ve just made an important step toward your dog’s health and happiness. We have a hunch your dog will love their new food as much as we loved crafting it. Follow the steps below to start feeding your dog their new Freshly Crafted recipe!

  1. Store in freezer until you’re ready to serve

  1. Thaw in a water bath or fridge

  1. For pouches, simply scoop and serve following the feeding guidelines provided. For rolls, peel off the label and cut into slices according to feeding guidelines, using the measurement markings on the packaging as a guide (more on that later!).

  1. Once thawed, keep refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 5 days. Always provide access to fresh water.

One-time customers can use the general feeding guidelines on the recipe packaging, while meal plan customers can access their dog’s personalized feeding guidelines via their account portal under ‘Meal Plan’.

Transitioning their entire diet?

Going all in on Freshly Crafted? No matter what your pup’s diet looked like before, we recommend giving them a transition period to adjust. Seven to ten days is ideal for most dogs, but if you see signs of digestive upset, pause for a day or two and resume once your pup’s digestion is back to normal. To learn more, head over to our full article with everything you need to know about transitioning.

What should I look out for when transitioning my dog to a full diet of Freshly Crafted food?

If you notice a shinier coat, happier tummy, and little more pep in their step, don’t be alarmed – that’s just their Freshly Crafted food doing what it does best! Many pet parents notice immediate changes, while others note a general improvement over time.

Every dog is unique and reacts to Freshly Crafted food differently, so you'll want to keep an eye on how your dog’s digestive system is reacting to the introduction of a completely new diet compared to their normal stool quality. Runnier stools and some instances of vomiting aren’t uncommon, but they may be your first indication that you may need to slow down or wait to increase their portion size if the symptoms progress. Always make sure your dog is drinking plenty of water!

Your dog’s Freshly Crafted journey is as unique as they are, so they may take a little extra time to adjust to their new food – and that’s perfectly okay! As always, if your dog is having a hard time with their new diet, stop the transition process and consult your vet. Our Pet Feeding Experts are also here for you every step of the way!

If your dog adjusts to their new diet off the bat, hooray! We still recommend going through the full transition period just in case.

What are the markings on my Freshly Crafted Rolls?

The hashmarks along the length of the packaging on Freshly Crafted rolls are an approximate measurement of 2oz of Freshly Crafted food. Use these as a general cutting guide when slicing your rolls, according to the feeding guidelines on the recipe itself, or with the personalized feeding guidelines provided to meal plan customers via their account portal

How do I store my Freshly Crafted recipe?

Eat up some of those leftovers, your pup is going to need the freezer space! Pro tip: only thaw what you’ll need for that day.

  1. Store unopened packs in freezer

  1. Once thawed, keep refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 5 days

  1. Never refreeze thawed food

The big bonus for meal plan customers is that every delivery is perfectly-timed according to their pup's eating schedule and daily caloric needs, so you won’t be doubling up on deliveries or having to store too much extra food!
