In honor of Black History Month, we're sharing the products and stories behind some of our favorite Black owned pet businesses. This is a dedicated time of year to pay attention to our Black community and their resilience. So naturally, we found three amazing Black pet-owned businesses that are contributing to not only our pets quality of life but for their community and our planet as well. Below are out top three:
1. Trill Paws
Trill Paws is a pet accessory and lifestyle brand based out of Los Angeles, California that's been gaining traction on social media for Rachel's stylish pet tags that are inspired by pop-culture icons and sayings. Our favorites? This "I Know I'm Extra" Guac Tag and "Ball Is Life" Tag. Rachel is a proud pet mom herself and understands that our dogs aren’t just pets; they’re family. "They deserve the best. The best tags, the best toys, the best spot in the bed. We’re basically driven to be the people our pets think we are." We love that her love of animals is reflected in her designs and craftsmanship! 2. The Bark Shoppe
The Bark Shoppe is a grooming shop and daycare in NYC that just oozes cool. Along with Melissa's thoughtfully designed list of pampering services, they also sell pet-safe and vegan pet care products like shampoos, conditioners and body sprays. Melissa has always focused on building a community-centric business, "Our social impact is the heart of us. We provide job readiness skills to young adults and at risk youth preparing them to enter the workforce and the pet grooming industry. We also host back to school drives, community barbecues and mentorship programs." Make sure to book a pampering session for your pooch if you're in New York! 3. House Dogge
Born from the creative mind of a former design director at Nike, Angela's handmade sustainable dog toys are both fun for your dog and aesthetically pleasing for your home. "Every day is a good one when our dogs are by our side. Dogs teach us that life is as simple as we make it, so we are following the lead of our canine buddies as we dream up products that (simply) prioritize fun, minimalism, comfort, and eco consciousness." Angela and her team researches, designs, and develops products out of natural, sustainable materials that are easy to care for and are nontoxic. Another reason to love them? House Dogge donates a percentage of each purchase to nonprofit organizations that are rescuing and healing health challenged, homeless, unwanted, neglected, and/or abused dogs so that they may find their caring forever home.
