What is fishmeal and why is it used in this recipe?

We'd love to share that we intentionally include fish meal in our dry kibble recipes, as they provide extra nutrition! Fish meal, fish with the water removed, is a concentrated source of amino acids needed for healthy muscles and is a highly concentrated source of animal protein! There are many species of whitefish available. We source primarily hake or the freshest whitefish based on seasonal availability. Our whitefish meal is sustainably sourced and always ocean-caught, never farmed.

We rely on AAFCO guidelines for all our formulation requirements. The protein named in the title of our Recipe makes up at minimum 25% of the recipe per their guidelines!

Our Dry Recipes use minimally processed ingredients that are extremely high quality such as humanely raised meats, wild-caught fish, non-GMO locally sourced vegetables! We cook our food at a lower temperature to preserve its nutrients through the cooking process. We use a twin screw extruder instead of a single screw as this allows for a lower cooking temperature. All of our Rustic Blends and Bone Broth Recipes include human grade ingredients and are made in a human grade facility. Our Dry Recipes use the same great ingredients which include our meats, fish and poultry which are sourced directly from farmers that supply national grocers and natural food retailers across the U.S. and Canada. While our farms supply human grade ingredients, our Dry Recipes cannot be labeled “human grade”. This is not due to their ingredients but because they are produced in a pet food facility. We take great pride in sourcing only the highest quality ingredients and maintaining significant control and traceability throughout our supply chain, and in ensuring that the foods we make are not only extremely healthy, but also safe.
